Twin Falls to Yellowstone

Up bright and breezy this morning to find the weather decidedly blowy and chilly. Hopefully it'll improve as we head towards Craters of the Moon, our first stop. Our mileage yesterday was 478.

Considering we weren't expecting breakfast to be provided, it has been everyday, albeit only pastries in San Francisco. Today John felt as though he was at home and enjoyed cereal, yogurt and fruit and I had fun making a waffle which I then covered in sugar free syrup which had only 10 calories. How can you have sugar free syrup? I thought all syrup was sugary. The fun part was watching other people dispense their batter, pour it into the waffle maker and then close the lid only to open a minute later to take a peek. This process continued and one guy said 'how do I know when it's done'.  At that point I pointed out the couple of instructions which said, fill, close, turn over, wait for beep and abracadabra, one waffle. The gathered group waiting eagerly to see the fruits of his labours looked at me and said there's always a clever clogs. Waffles after that were perfect.

Our first photo opportunity today was the Snake River, over which Evel Kinievel tried to jump in about 1974. He failed but landed safely in the water after his parachute opened.

We are now at Craters of the Moon National Park, which is where the astronauts trained for one of the Apollo moon landings. The whole area is covered in lava even though there's no volcano in sight. The lava erupted through fissures in the earths crust and caused huge lava flows. In the case of the photo, instead of running the lava literally fell out of the hole and formed a cone.  Cones range from ground level to a couple of hundred feet.

As we approached Yellowstone we entered our fourth state, Montana and what a surprise, its been SNOWING. Yesterday it was too hot and now this. I hope it improves for tomorrow otherwise we're going to freeze. One thing I didn't prepare for was snow!

We've now arrived and lucky us have the swimming pool opposite our room. Three steps across the corridor and we're there, great. Been for a swim, the rain has stopped and we now have blue sky so I think it's time to go to eat.

Food was disappointing compared with last night. Glad to be back in the warmth of our room with a plastic beaker of wine!!!!!  Cheers.
